Oahu, Hawai'i

From the archives: Excerpts from our trip to Oahu, Hawai'i.

Flying from Maui to Oahu guarantees stunning views of the shimmering ocean, sapphire reefs, and green mountains of the islands below. Hawaiian Airlines is our preferred method of flying, their customer service and promptness is unparalleled.

Our first day there, we visited the North Shore. Beginning in Hale'iwa, the "seven mile miracle" is one of the jewels of Oahu. This stretch of coastline is known for it's world-class surf breaks and pristine beaches. We rented a car and started our trek by stopping in Hale'iwa town for Matsumoto's Shave Ice. Haleiwa Bowls is our favorite place in Oahu for acai bowls and smoothies. After a day of surfing, swimming, and hiking, Cholo's Mexican is our favorite place to re-fuel in Hale'iwa.

Another beautiful beach in Oahu is Lanikai Beach. Nestled right outside Kailua town, Lanikai Beach is picture-perfect. Crystal clear water that shimmers like sapphires in the sun, Lanikai is popular for snorkeling, swimming, and kayaking. Arrive early as it is a popular beach among locals and tourists. The Pill Box Hike is a favorite hike right above Lanikai; a steep incline, the views of the beach and islands below is definitely worth it.
