We are tied to the ocean

Some mornings, I'll wake up early, grab a coffee, drive to the beach, and sit in the cold sand just watching the sets roll in. When days start like this, it's hard for them to go wrong. Whenever there is a moment of stress or negativity, I think back to earlier in the day, watching the waves, and an immediate sense of calm overpowers whatever I was feeling. This reminds me of a quote by late President John F. Kennedy when speaking at a dinner for the America's Cup crews in 1962.

He said, “I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it's because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it's because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea - whether it is to sail or to watch it - we are going back from whence we came."

Perhaps you've felt the same feeling when sitting on your board between sets, seeing the ocean from your balcony or a road trip along the coast. It's an indescribable sense of feeling at peace, inspired, and awe struck simultaneously. A delicate balance of feeling powerful yet grounded. Find your ocean, and harness this feeling to change the world.
